UN declares 2020 "Year of Farabi"

United Nations has declared 2020 “Year of Farabi”, on occasion of the 1150th anniversary of the great Turkish scientist and philosopher Abu Nasr Al-Farabi.

Abu Nasr Al-Farabi was born in 870 in the ancient city of Farab, located on the Otrar territory, near Turkestan, now Kazakhstan. After continuing his education in Bukhara and Samarkand, Farabi, who lived in Baghdad, Cairo, Aleppo and Damascus, received his first education here and used the resources of the Otrar Library, the world's largest book and manuscript after the Alexandria library.

Farabi put forward theories, that shed light on humanity in the field of mathematics, astronomy, linguistics, chemistry, biology, philosophy, medicine, logic, sociology, politics, jurisprudence, ethics and others. Abu Nasr Al-Farabi, who is known as the second teacher of humanity after Aristotle, died in 950 in Damascus.

The shining star of Islamic philosophy Abu Nasr Al-Farabi is undoubtedly one of the leading figures in world philosophy.
