On November 29, ANAS Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi has organized an international scientific conference on "Alasgar top of Ashug art" dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Ashig Alasgar.
Opening the event, ANAS Vice-President, Director of the Institute of Literature, Academician Isa Habibbayli noted on AR President Ilham Aliyev's Order on the solemn celebration of the 200th anniversary of Ashug Alasgar, a national artist who raised Azerbaijani ashug poetry. Speaking about the study of Ashig Alasgar's works, the academician touched upon the merits of the book "Legends about Ashug Alasgar" prepared under the leadership of Maharram Gasimli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Ashugs Union and with the participation of Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor Aynur Khalilova and Doctor of Philology, Professor Mahmud Allahmanli.Then, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Ashugs Union, Professor Maharram Gasimli, said that the work of Ashug Alasgar can be considered as both a folklore and a literary event: “Master Ashig's work is a direct example of literature.Speaking at the event on "Ashig Alasgar: the tradition of oral performance and the individuality of the master artist", Academician Mukhtar Imanov touched upon some controversial points about Ashig Alasgar.Then, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Aynur Khalilova delivered a paper on "Life and art of Ashig Alasgar in the modern cultural and historical context". A.Khalilova also spoke on the work done at the Institute of Literature in connection with the 200th anniversary of Ashig Alasgar.He noted that a collection of articles about Ashig Alasgar, a book of songs composed to his words, a collection of legends, poems and epics about his work are being prepared.
In the artistic part of the event, the folklore group "Cheshma" operating under the Azerbaijan Ashugs Union and the deputy chairman of the union Altay Mammadli performed examples from the work of Ashug Alasgar.
