Preparations to identify Armenianized Azerbaijani toponyms in the liberated territories and return them the Azerbaijani name are underway.
This was stated by the chairman of the Toponymy Commission under the Milli Majlis, MP, first vice-president of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli.
According to him, ANAS Institutes of Linguistics, History and Geography of are already working in this direction:
"A list of our historical names in our ancient maps and other sources is being prepared. Work is now underway to determine those historical names and their correct spelling. We must combine toponyms with their historical names. Because all these toponyms are the roots of the Azerbaijanis living in the historical lands of Azerbaijan, the names connected with the history and living the history. All these names will be restored in the light of the great victory march led by President Ilham Aliyev.
To defining new toponyms it is proposed a new toponyms both historical toponyms and also the heroism of the Azerbaijani army in the Patriotic War which signs of new history.
