A scientific session dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade was held

On June 27, a scientific session dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Mammad Arif Dadashzade, an outstanding literary scholar, translator, pedagogue, writer, academician, was held at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS.

First, the grave of a prominent scientist was visited in Fakhri Alley, and flowers were laid on it.

Later, the participants of the event viewed the exhibition reflecting the life and activities of academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade in the lobby of the Institute of Literature.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli, president of ANAS, director of the Institute of Literature, opened the event attended by family members of the deceased scientist, representatives of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, employees of the Institute of Literature and Folklore, and members of the media. He talked about the meaningful life path of Mammad Arif Dadashzade, his rich scientific creativity, and emphasized that the scientist had important services in the development of 20th century Azerbaijani literary criticism and literary studies.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that prominent scientist Mammad Arif Dadashzade had a special role in the creation, organization, structure and directions of activity of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi. He noted that a bibliography of Mammad Arif Dadashzade's works is being prepared for publication by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS as a contribution to the 120th anniversary of the literary scholar.

"Academician Mammad Arif is one of the creators of the history of Azerbaijani literature," said academician Isa Habibbayli, stressing that this distinguished person has a special place in the history of social thought and literature of Azerbaijan. He said that academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade, as a critic and literary critic, preserved objectivity, justice and reality in his scientific activities, analyzes and evaluations. While researching and summarizing the literature of Azerbaijan and the world for more than half a century, he made analyzes and comparisons with scientific thought that could be an example of wisdom and modernity for his time. The scientist took into account the literary and social processes of the time while evaluating specific literary figures.

It was brought to attention that Mammad Arif Dadashzade left an indelible mark in Azerbaijani literary studies with his innovative position. His monograph dedicated to Jafar Jabbarli, one of the main creators of 20th century Azerbaijani dramaturgy, has a special weight among large-scale scientific works. Also, academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade's monograph entitled "Dramaturgy of Samad Vurgun" is a reliable scientific guide for studying the works of folk poet Samad Vurgun on a monographic scale.

Academician Isa Habibbayli, who shared his memories of Mammad Arif Dadashzade, characterized him as a great scientist and a fair personality. He recalled his participation in the jubilee of the literary critic and scientist in 1974, and said that he was an eyewitness of the Azerbaijani society's appreciation of Mammad Arif Dadashzade as a great scientist.

It was noted that Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh, an outstanding scientist and a skilled organizer, started working at the Institute of Literature in 1938, from that year he worked as a department head, and in January-September 1939, he worked as a deputy director, and he was twice elected as the director of this science center. He worked as the vice-president of the Academy of Sciences from 1960 until the end of his life.

Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the scientist created a great scientific school, played an important role in the development of intelligent generations and the formation of the nation's new pen holders.

Later, the head of the 20th century (Soviet era) Azerbaijani literature department of the Institute of Literature, doctor of philology, professor Asif Rustamli presented his report on "The place and role of Mammad Arif Dadashzade in the creation and organization of the Institute of Literature". The speaker said that Mammad Arif Dadashzade entered the history of our scientific and literary-social thought as an example of wisdom and modernity. The author's works shed light on the development of Azerbaijani literature, the new stage of the science of literary studies, and the development of our modern public opinion. The scientist who closely participated in the creation of the history of national literature did not spare his contributions to the work of training highly qualified personnel in the republic.

In the scientific session, the head of the department of literary theory, doctor of philology, professor Tahira Mammad "The creative method of Jafar Jabbarli in the studies of Academician Mammad Arif", the head of the department of literary criticism Vagif Yusifli, doctor of philological sciences "Literary and critical meetings of Academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade", 20th century (Soviet leading researcher of the department of Azerbaijani literature, PhD in philology, associate professor Aslan Salmansoy "The heritage of Samad Vurgun in the researches of academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade" and PhD in philology, associate professor Agshin Dadashzade "Academician Mammad Arif Dadashzade and the literary and cultural environment" they did.

It was mentioned in the reports that academician Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh wrote many scientific-theoretical books, textbooks, hundreds of articles, and devoted almost 40 years of his life to translations from world literature. He is one of the personalities who literally created a school of literary studies, a school of literary criticism and critics.

At the end, Mammad Arif Dadashzade's grandson, Zumrud Dadashzade, Professor of the Baku Music Academy thanked the staff of ANAS and the participants for the attention paid to his grandfather's memory.
