The 1st volume of the "History of Azerbaijani Literature" was published by ANAS Institute of Literature after Nizami Ganjavi. The book is devoted to “Oral Folk Literature”, which is the main source for the development of original and written literature in the historical and chronological aspect.
Author of the introduction “Azerbaijani literature: the concept of cycles and stages of development” by ANAS Vice-President, Director of the Institute of Literature, academician Isa Habibbayli. Book includes mythological sources of national literature, examples of oral folk art.
Publication presents works of individual scientists in the chronological sequence, starting with the essay "Azerbaijani folklore" by ProfessorMaharram Gasimli, which is revealed the overall picture of our oral folk literature.
The book includes the study of mythology, archaic folklore genres, poetic songs, ancient Turkish epic, ancient Turkic Oguzname, “Kitabi Dede Korgud”, epics, Ashug art, “Koroglu” epic, fairy tales, proverbs and sayings, etc.
