The world of science and scientific activity of the prominent literary scientist, academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov was wide. From literary theory and literary criticism, history, philosophy, aesthetics, folklore, religion, linguistics, pedagogy, etc.Literary criticism has determined the leading direction of his multifaceted scientific activity. Academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov is a professional literary scholar with deep theoretical thinking.He is considered one of the most universal scientists in the field of humanities in Azerbaijan.

In addition, academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov's scientific activity is dominated by several important scientific problems: the history and theory of literary criticism and the problems of romanticism in Azerbaijani literature. Literary-critical views of Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh, or simply Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh, when talking about romanticism in Azerbaijani literature, the first thing that comes to mind is academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov.
At the same time, like other literary critics, there are many prominent artists whom academician Mammad Jafar Jafarov loved or wrote about with special inspiration: Mohammad Fuzuli, Mirza Fatali Akhundzade, Huseyn Javid and Samad Vurgun.
