Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the President of ANAS, met with Professor Salvatore Arico, the chief executive director of the world's most prestigious scientific institution, the International Scientific Council (ISC), who is visiting our country within the framework of COP29.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who expressed his satisfaction to see the guest in our country, said that COP29, which is held in Azerbaijan and is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the world, has been officially opened, that decisions of special importance for the future of our world will be made at the conference, including a number of important discussions in the field of science. brought to attention.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the opportunities of humanities and social sciences can be used to solve global problems such as climate change, he stressed that ANAS is interested in cooperation with ISC in this and other areas, and voiced his suggestions and opinions.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli informed the guest about the history of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the honorable development path it has taken, its achievements and the structural reforms carried out in recent years at the meeting held at the Presidium of ANAS. He noted that structural reforms were carried out in the National Academy of Sciences based on the calls of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and modern world science, important steps were taken for the development of electronic science in the Academy and the access of our scientists to world science, for the first time in the history of ANAS, it officially joined international scientific organizations, including ISC becoming a member, he became a voice in the decisions made in world science.
After speaking, the chief executive director of the International Scientific Council (ISC), Professor Salvatore Arico, expressed his satisfaction to be in our country and ANAS within the framework of COP29. Giving information about the organization he represents, the scientist noted that ISC, established in 2018, is one of the largest organizations working for the development and integration of science at the international level, and the organization aims to increase the contribution of science to society. He emphasized that promoting and supporting the development of science, bringing scientific knowledge to a wider audience and stimulating the use of this knowledge are the main goals of the International Scientific Council. He pointed out that the ISC has a structure that brings together the main representatives of the global scientific community and national and regional scientific organizations. He said that the international academic organization includes more than 250 academies, scientific associations, national and international scientific organizations from more than 140 countries of the world. Together, these institutions develop global scientific programs, cooperate closely with the UN and other influential organizations, and offer them the necessary resources to solve global problems.
Prof. Salvatore Arico expressed his satisfaction with ANAS becoming a member of the organization and joint cooperation. He said that they are interested in developing relations with the Academy in the field of humanities and social sciences, in addition to exact and natural sciences, and highlighted the proposals for joint cooperation between institutions.
He emphasized that the suggestions made by academician Isa Habibbayli at the meeting will be discussed at the meeting of the General Assembly of ISC to be held on January 26-30, 2025 in Muscat, the capital of Oman, with the joint participation of scientific institutions of member countries.
