“Today, artificial intelligence and digital technologies have entered into various areas of our society, and their use continues to expand day by day.”-said the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, at the meeting of the Presidium of ANAS held on July 22, on the topic “Digital Development and Artificial Intelligence Strategy in the Renewing Academy: Problems, Solutions, and Tasks.”
Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that President Ilham Aliyev attaches special importance on issues of artificial intelligence and digital development. The Head of State has signed the Decree on the approval of the “Digital Development Concept in the Republic of Azerbaijan” and the Order on the approval of the “Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025-2028” in this direction. He also said that the Decree of the Head of State on “Electronic exchange of documents between state bodies (institutions)” shows the importance our state gives to the process of digitalization.
He also noted that the dedication of the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum held in Khankendi on July 19 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev to the topic “Digital Transitions: Strengthening Information and Media Resilience in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” the answers of the Head of State to questions in this direction, and setting of a number of tasks will guide our future research.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that taking into account calls and instructions of President Ilham Aliyev as well as global trends in this field, important works related to artificial intelligence and digital development are underway also at the National Academy of Sciences. The “Electronic Academy” department was established at ANAS to implement these works. He said that at the General Assemblies of ANAS, meetings of the Presidium, and several conferences, presentations on artificial intelligence were delivered to the wider public by the head of ANAS, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, Academician Ali Abbasov, and corresponding member of ANAS Kamil Aydazade, and information about the research and future expectations was provided.
The head of ANAS noted that the application of artificial intelligence to the humanities and social sciences is one of the main goals, and today artificial intelligence writes poems, stories, and scripts, conducts research, performs various complex operations, and its application and development also in the renewing Academy is of great importance.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that the video voiced by People’s Writer Anar, prepared by the employees of the Institute of Control Systems using artificial intelligence was met with great interest, at the event of ANAS dedicated to “Science Day,” this year.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli said that departments such as Artificial Intelligence and Computational Linguistics at the Institute of Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development at the Institute of Philosophy, Digital Oriental Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies, and Digital Folklore and Netnographic Analysis at the Institute of Folklore are operating, and that this process is continuing in other institutions as well.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli underlined that the digitalization process is rapidly continuing at the Academy. The “Electronic Academy” department has already created electronic databases for 21 journals published by ANAS, DOI identifiers have been assigned to the articles, three journals of the Academy have been included in TÜBİTAK’s DergiPark database, and a national DergiPark network has also been established.
The head of ANAS stated that, as a continuation of the digitalization work currently being carried out at ANAS, a presentation of the updated electronic library was held at the Central Scientific Library of ANAS. He noted that 127,000 new resources have been added to the electronic catalog, bringing the total number of resources in the catalog to 827,000, and access has been provided for the convenience of users.
In addition, inclusive service resources have been prepared, and “Talking Books” and similar features are being offered to readers at the Academy for the first time. At the same time, access to catalogs and fast book ordering have been improved through an automated system installed at the entrance of the library.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli highlighted that the process of artificial intelligence and digital development at ANAS is rapidly continuing, and more active involvement of scientific institutions in this process will give an impetus to the development of the overall work.
