A scientific conference on the topic "Gasim bey Zakir and the literary and social environment of Karabakh" was held in the Guzanly settlement of Aghdam region. The event was attended by the head of the district executive authority Vagif Hasanov, president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Isa Habibbeyli, director of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS Teymur Karimli, doctor of philological sciences, professor, researcher of the heritage of Gasim bey Zakir Raguf Karimov, people's poet Sabir Rustamkhanli, heads of departments, enterprises and organizations of the district, representatives of the descendants of Gasim bey Zakir and the community of the district, and other persons.
First, the monument to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was visited and flowers were laid in front of it. Then, a tree was planted in the territory of the park named after Gasim bey Zakir, which will be built in the village of Khindiristan. It was noted that the park also plans to create a memorial museum for Gasim bey Zakir.
The National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played at the event, which continued at the Agdam Mugham Center, and the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.
The speakers spoke about the literary and social environment of Karabakh, the life and work of Gasim bey Zakir, one of the prominent representatives of the 19th century realist Azerbaijani literature, the inclusion of his literary heritage in the cultural treasury of our people, and the full reflection of the possibilities of our native language in the poet's work.
Gasim bey Zakir gained fame as a powerful master of words by continuing and developing the best aspects of classical Eastern literature in a unique satirical and lyrical style. He raised the Azerbaijani artistic language to a new level, distinguished himself from his contemporaries with his satirical poems, couplets, and geraylis, which were full in content and complete in form, and attracted attention as a master artist. Zakir's literary heritage has entered the cultural treasury of our people. By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated May 7, 2019, Gasim bey Zakir was included in the list of authors whose works are declared state heritage in Azerbaijan.
In the artistic part of the event, various musical numbers were presented to the conference participants, performed by Honored Artist of the Republic Fehruz Sakhavat, teachers and students of the college, accompanied by the "Karabakh Instrumental Ensemble" of the Agdam Music College.
