An event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held

An event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The event was attended by doctoral and dissertation students of the Institute of Literature, as well as interns.
Deputy Director of the Institute, PhD, associate professor Mehman Hasanli spoke about the bloody tragedy committed by Armenians against the civilian population in Khojaly on February 26, 1992, and the brutality of the enemy. He recalled that 33 years ago, our compatriots were subjected to genocide on a snowy winter day. Emphasizing that Armenians have committed similar events at different times throughout history, he noted that the Dashnaks also committed genocide in 1905 and 1918.
Mehman Hasanli said that at that time, Armenians, taking advantage of the chaos and weakness of the political leadership of Azerbaijan, which had just regained its independence, committed a brutal genocide in Khojaly. He added that the Azerbaijani people avenged the innocent blood shed in Khojaly during the 44-Day Patriotic War. He also brought to attention that our victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev was in Khojaly a few days ago.
He spoke about the special importance of the participation of young people, including doctoral and dissertation students of the Institute of Literature, and interns, in such events.Then, the scientific secretary, PhD in Philology, associate professor Aygun Bagirli delivered a report on the topic and recalled the statistics of the victims of the tragedy. She reported that as a result of the genocide, several families were completely destroyed, 613 civilians, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people, were killed, and 1275 people were taken prisoner. Also recalled that 8 families were completely destroyed in this genocide, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents. He spoke about the literary examples written about the tragedy.  She said that in 1994, the Khojaly genocide was declared on the day of the Khojaly tragedy by the great leader Heydar Aliyev.

She emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on the establishment of the Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex in the city of Khojaly.
At the event, the Head of the Education Department, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Gunay Garayeva, and the Chair of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Institute of Literature, PhD in Philology Shafa Aliyeva also shared their views on the topic.
