Academician Mammad Jafar was one of the first professionally founders of Azerbaijani literary criticism. Sometimes there was a debate, what is the difference between a critic and a literary critic? They say that, the critic writes on the modern literary process but the literary critic writes on the history of literature – that is the difference. I think that, is not true. After all, the best critic is a best literary critic. Because, how can a critic evaluate the modern literary process without knowing the history of the literature, just have a certain theoretical knowledge?
So, academician Mammad Jafar was a well-known critic, as well as a well-educated theorist and a literary historian!
