Umberto Eco must have said of The Name of the Rose: "My novel is for those who read the first 100 pages." The same can be said about Natig Mammadli's new novel "Love". But if you have a little patience and get to know the heroes, not with so many page differences, the novel continues to read itself. And a legendary journey begins with the heroes.
I do not use the word travel in the sense we are accustomed to, that is, in the sense of emphasizing time, different periods. "Love" is truly a travel novel. This journey, which includes various human figures, characters, exotic images of space, and rapidly replaces each other, is also a new acquaintance with the world and people. It is to be able to read and watch the realities we live in from a novel.
The subject of the work is the love between Said and Mujda, who guide tourists traveling to Southeast Asian countries. The society and the environment in which these young people of different religions live do not want to accept their love, and they try to hinder them in various ways. Young people are looking for a way out from India to Azerbaijan, to the Land of Fires.
The novel is rich in information about the history, religious views and worldviews of several countries. The author changes places and brings events from India to Sigiriya, from Sigiriya to Baku, from Baku to Ukraine. Such displacements give us a chance to study the culture, history and ethnographic features of these countries. At the same time, the images are not tiring. On the contrary, the montage transitions made from story to story, from moment to event, the episodes that give the impression of free camera movements, the balance, the special effects, are melted in the text artistically because they appeal to the idea.
