Aligulu Gamkusar (1880-1919), one of the prominent representatives of the critical-realist literature of Azerbaijan in the early twentieth century, is one of the powerful creators of national satirical poetry and journalism. He is accepted as an artist with a special place and special position in the "Molla Nasreddin" literary school headed by the great democratic writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh. Aligulu Gamkusar also played an important role in the development of the Azerbaijani theater.

Aligulu Gamkusar, who was born in Nakhchivan in the family of hatter Mashadi Alakbar Najafov, was educated at the famous "Tarbiya" school, which was wisely taught by the famous enlightener-poet Mohammad Taghi Sidgi. Aligulu Najafov lived and worked in Julfa with his close relatives working in the Azerbaijani-Iranian customs office for some time. The young writer wrote articles here in 1903 and showed them to the "Eastern-Russian" newspaper, edited by Mohammad Agha Shahtakhtli.
