On December 28, a scientific session dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the People's Poet of Azerbaijan, public figure, State Prize laureate Nabi Khazri (Nabi Alakbar oglu Babayev) was held at the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature of ANAS.
The event was attended by well-known scientists and cultural figures, employees of the Institute of Literature, family members of the writer, public representatives and members of the media.
The scientific session was opened by the Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Department of Humanities of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Manuscripts, Academician Teymur Karimli, who emphasized that the event was held in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev “On the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Nabi Khazri” dated September 9, 2024. He noted that, taking into account the importance of the President's Decree and in order to properly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the famous Azerbaijani poet Nabi Khazri, a series of events dedicated to the outstanding writer have been organized in our country.
Later, the head of the Department of 20th Century (Soviet Period) Azerbaijani Literature of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, Doctor of Philology, Professor Asif Rustamli presented his report entitled "The Poet's Life Path." Providing information about the rich literary heritage of Nabi Khazri, the speaker characterized him as a sensitive, national-spirited intellectual, one of the rare prominent artists of 20th century Azerbaijani poetry.
Professor Asif Rustamli noted that Nabi Khazri was born in December 1924 in the village of Khirdalan near Baku. After graduating from secondary school, the poet, who began his labor activity, worked as a proofreader in the editorial office of the "Kommunist" newspaper and an announcer on the Azerbaijani radio in 1943-1945. He received higher education at Azerbaijan State University in 1945-1947, at Leningrad State University in 1947-1949, and at the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute in 1949-1952. Nabi Khazri, who was accepted as a member of the Writers' Union in 1945, published his first book of poems entitled "Flourishing Dreams" in 1950.
At the event, the head of the Department of World Literature and Comparative Studies of the Institute of Literature, Doctor of Philology Guler Abdullabeyli, and the employee of the Department of Modern Azerbaijani Literature, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Nazakat Qafqazli, reviewed the poet's work and emphasized that his works serve human values.
Finally, on behalf of the poet's family, his son Arzu Babayev spoke and thanked the organizers and participants of the event for the respect shown to the memory of his father. He emphasized that the rich literary heritage of Nabi Khazri continues to serve the development of our language, culture, and spirituality today.
