Acad. Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh’s 120th anniversary held

One of the founders of the history of Azerbaijani literature, critic and literary critic, Academician Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh maintained objectivity, justice, and reality in his scientific activities, analyses, and assessments. For more than half a century, while researching and summarizing Azerbaijani and world literature, he conducted analyses and comparisons with scientific thought that could be an example of wisdom and modernity for his time. When assessing specific literary figures, the scientist took into account the literary and social processes of the time. Academician Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh wrote many scientific-theoretical books, textbooks, hundreds of articles, and devoted about 40 years of his life to translations from world literature. He is one of the personalities who, in the true sense of the word, created a school of literary criticism, a school of literary criticism, and a school of critics.

Speaking to journalists before the event, the distinguished scholar's grandson, Professor of the Baku Academy of Music named after Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Honored Artist of Arts Zumrud Dadashzadeh, spoke about the literary scholar's attention and care for young people.

The scriptwriter of the event, Honored Journalist, Doctor of Philosophy in Pedagogy, Associate Professor Gafar Askerzadeh, looked at the life of the scientist and spoke about his creativity.

At the ceremony hosted by Azadeh Askerzadeh, the President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, the Vice-Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Academician Rafael Huseynov and others spoke and said that Mammad Arif, a valuable intellectual and a holistic personality, made great contributions to the development of Azerbaijani literature and literary language.

The speeches emphasized the important contributions of the prominent scholar to the development of 20th-century Azerbaijani literary criticism and literary studies. Mammad Arif Dadashzadeh played a special role in the establishment, formation, and determination of the structure and directions of activity of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature.

He began his literary activity in 1923 with the feuilletons "Badgumanam" and "Marsiye Khabarlari" published in the pages of the "Molla Nasreddin" magazine. In the 1920s and 1930s, he published poems and stories in the press.

At the evening gave a broad overview of the scientist's life and scientific work, and once again highlighted his contributions to the development of Azerbaijani literary studies. An artistic and musical program was also presented at the anniversary event.

Throughout the event, the "Dan Ulduzu" instrumental ensemble after Honored Art Worker Gulara Aliyeva accompanied the evening. The artistic director of the ensemble is Honored Artist Tariyel Abbasov.

At the end, the grandchildren of the outstanding scientist, Zumrud and Agshin Dadashzade, expressed their gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event for the attention shown to the memory of their grandfather.
